How to apply for Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programmes with CTSN

We are now taking applications for all of our Initial Teacher Training programmes.

Following our successful presentation evening on 17 October with over 75 attendees, here is all the information you need to know to apply to our Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programmes.

At CTSN, we offer three school centred routes into teaching in both primary and secondary school settings; School Direct SalariedSchool Direct Non-Salaried options and the School Direct Salaried Flexible Route, which result in Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and offer you to gain hands on experience at the same time. Alternatively, we have also formed a partnership with the University of Hertfordshire School Direct PGCE.

What experience/qualifications do I need to teach?

The minimum entry requirements for our courses are:

  • At least grade C GCSE in English and maths, plus a science subject if you want to teach primary or key stages 2/3
  • UK undergraduate degree or recognised equivalent qualification.
  • At least 10 days’ school experience. School experience will provide you with an invaluable insight into school life.
  • The professional skills tests in numeracy and literacy must be passed before you begin training; however you can’t take these tests until you have submitted an application for teacher training. For practice papers and registration for the tests, visit the Department for Education website
  • If you're interested in teaching physics, maths, chemistry, computing, languages or design and technology, but didn’t study these as your degree, you can boost your subject knowledge before you begin training by completing a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course.
  • You will need to provide two reference details and these will need to be accepted before the application form can be accepted.
