Developing Middle Leaders Programme

Who is the programme for? 

This is a development programme for middle leaders and caters for individuals who are typically in their first year in post or aspiring to middle leadership. The programme supports the development of a range of generic leadership and management skills needed by middle leaders in order to successfully manage the transition into their first management post.

This programme is suitable for participants across phases and from any role within a school which has responsibility for leading and managing a team. The programme is led by current senior and middle leaders with a proven track record of success at this level of leadership.

How is the programme delivered? 

The programme comprises of four twilight sessions. The sessions will run at approximately one to two week intervals. This will allow time between sessions for reflection and analysis of practice within school and enable the individual to gather information for subsequent sessions.

Session 1: Manager or Leader?

  • Understanding the difference between management and leadership
  • What type of leader am I?
  • Effective teams and how to build them

Session 2: Managing in the role

  • Managing yourself and your time
  • Effective use of your team through delegation
  • Managing resources and budgets

Session 3: Communication

  • Active listening
  • Difficult conversations
  • Giving feedback
  • Running a successful meeting

Session 4: Delivering change and improvement

  • Understanding the school development planning process
  • Identifying and prioritising areas for change
  • Leading change
  • Evaluating impact

The course is offered at different venues to allow maximum flexibility for participants. You will need to choose your venue and attend all of the sessions at that venue:

Programme cost

The cost of the programme is £250  per delegate, payable on acceptance onto the course and is non-refundable. To request a place please complete the booking form, stating which venue you wish to attend.
